Walking therapy

Who: Great for older children aged 12-15

Where: Outdoors among the natural beauty of the Cotswolds

What: This is conducted outdoors and combines physical activity with nature to enhance mindfulness and reduce stress.

About: In walking therapy with older children, I combine the therapeutic benefits of movement and nature with gentle conversation, allowing thoughts and feelings to emerge more freely in a calming, non-clinical setting, allowing for a non-directive approach. It’s especially beneficial for those children with Neurodiversity.

Walking therapy offers a refreshing alternative to traditional indoor sessions, especially for older children and teens who may feel uncomfortable in formal settings. Set in the peaceful surroundings of the Cotswolds, these outdoor sessions combine gentle walking with supportive conversation, allowing emotions and thoughts to flow more naturally in the calming presence of nature.

The rhythm of walking, paired with the soothing effect of the natural environment, can help reduce anxiety, ease emotional tension, and support clearer thinking. Without the pressure of direct eye contact or being seated face-to-face, young people often feel more at ease to open up. These sessions gently encourage self-reflection, emotional regulation, and a deeper connection to the body and present moment, helping children feel grounded, heard, and empowered.
