Attachment based therapy
Who: Suitable across my practice across all ages
Where: Face-to-face or online
What: I use attachment-based therapy to help strengthen emotional bonds and improve the quality of relationships between individuals and their caregivers or significant others.
About: It is based on attachment theory, which suggests that early experiences with caregivers influence how people form relationships, manage emotions, and cope with stress. In my work, I aim to identify and repair insecure or disrupted attachment patterns, enhance emotional regulation, improve relationship skills, and provide corrective emotional experiences. I often work with children, young people, and adults who have experienced trauma, neglect, or difficulties in forming healthy relationships.
In my practice, attachment-based therapy allows me to focus on relational patterns within the whole family. I:
- Work directly with parents and children to strengthen secure attachment and improve communication.
- Explore family narratives to identify patterns of emotional distance, enmeshment, or unresolved trauma.
- Use interventions to repair disrupted attachment, re-establish trust, and foster emotional attunement.
- Apply emotion-focused strategies to help family members recognise and validate each other’s feelings while promoting empathy.
- Integrate trauma-informed approaches, since many attachment disruptions stem from neglect, abuse, or other adverse experiences.
By using these strategies, I support families in developing healthier relational dynamics, improving emotional responsiveness, and fostering long-term resilience in children and adolescents.
